On 12 September 2017, Asgardia’s Head of Nation Igor Ashurbeyli ordered the Central Electoral Commission to conduct the parliamentary elections within a six-month period.

One hundred and fifty Asgardians from 13 language districts will be elected to the country’s Parliament and will lead the space nation through adopting laws, calling referenda and appointing government officials. Members of Parliament will be elected for five-year terms in accordance with the Constitution of Asgardia. Districts are chosen based on the most popular languages – and not on countries – because Asgardia is a space nation that sees no Earthly boundaries.

Once the Parliament is formed, other government bodies will also be established: the Supreme Space Court, the Supreme Space Council, the National Bank, National Audit Office, the Prosecutor’s Office, the ministries and more. Formation of the government is another step towards UN recognition of the space nation.
